ASYCUDA World — what importers need to know
ASYCUDA World (Automated System for Customs Data) is the electronic customs management system used by NamRA at all Namibian ports of entry, including Walvis Bay. All SAD 500 declarations are submitted, processed, and tracked through ASYCUDA World.
What happens in ASYCUDA
When your clearing agent submits your SAD 500 through ASYCUDA World:
- The system assigns a unique declaration reference number
- NamRA risk assessment determines the examination channel:
- Green channel: automatic release (low risk)
- Yellow channel: documentary examination required
- Red channel: physical examination required
- Duty assessment is generated based on the declared values and tariff
- Payment of assessed duties triggers release authorisation
- Release order is issued to the port operator
Why this matters for your timeline
Green channel clearances can complete in 24–48 hours from submission. Yellow channel adds 1–3 days for documentary review. Red channel adds 3–7 days and may require physical presence.
Pre-validating your documents and HS codes before submission significantly increases the probability of green channel assessment. This is a core part of what WalvisLink does before every submission.
